☕ ESPRESSO MACHINE REVIEW
Gemilai Owl G3006 Review (2026)
Gemilai
Written and reviewed by the CoffeeLabAdvisor editorial team · Published 23 October 2026
The Gemilai Owl G3006 is the machine most people mean when they search for Gemilai: a single-thermoblock espresso machine with a heated 58mm group, PID temperature control and a two-hole steam wand that reviewers keep describing as stronger than it has any right to be at this price. It is not an E61 and it has no boiler, but it gives you the commercial portafilter size and the temperature control that most machines in its price band leave out. You will need a separate espresso grinder.
✓ Pros
- Standard 58mm portafilter, so commercial baskets and tampers fit
- PID brew temperature adjustable in 1°F steps, with a heated group
- Steam power reviewers rate well above its class
- Shot timer, pressure and temperature on the front display
✗ Cons
- Pre-infusion is a short wet and a pause, not low-pressure flow
- Pressure valve is internal and not meant to be adjusted
- No built-in grinder (separate espresso grinder required)
- Plastic-handled portafilter and tamper in the box

Gemilai Owl G3006 — FAQ
Is the Gemilai Owl G3006 good for beginners?
Yes, for a beginner who wants to learn. The display shows shot time, pressure and temperature, the PID holds brew temperature, and the 58mm portafilter takes standard accessories, which makes dialling in easier to understand. The catch is that it needs a separate espresso grinder and has no automatic milk system, so it rewards practice rather than replacing it.
Does the Gemilai Owl have a boiler?
No. The Owl heats water in a single thermoblock, a flow heater, and adds PTC heating elements in the group head so the group is hot before you brew. That is why it heats up in about a minute rather than the long warm-up of a boiler machine. It also means brewing and steaming happen one after the other, never at the same time.
What portafilter size does the Gemilai Owl use?
58mm, the commercial standard. Any 58mm basket, tamper, distributor, dosing funnel or puck screen will fit, which is a real advantage over machines with proprietary sizes. The group looks like an E61, but a hands-on teardown confirmed it is not one, so E61-specific parts such as group gaskets should be bought for the Owl itself rather than for a generic E61.
What is the difference between the Gemilai Owl G3006 and the G3006A?
The G3006A keeps the same thermoblock, heated group and 58mm portafilter, and adds a built-in pressure valve that caps the shot near eleven to twelve bar, separate brew and steam temperature settings, a two-stage pre-infusion and a cold extraction mode for iced drinks. If you would use those features, the G3006A is the better machine; if not, the original Owl brews the same way.
Is the Gemilai Owl worth buying?
For the right buyer, yes. It gives you a 58mm group, PID temperature control and strong steam, which are usually found on more expensive machines. The honest caveats are that its pre-infusion is basic, its pressure valve is not adjustable, and nobody has yet published a long-term ownership report, so reliability beyond the first months is unknown. Budget for a good grinder too.
